The reactions that a horse manifests are of various kinds. Head-tossing is traditionally one of the horse’s heartfelt cries: “Don’t pull my mouth out so much!” Kicking out with the hind feet towards the rider’s legs means, “Don’t tickle me with your spurs!” Swishing the tail means, “Your legs are too noisy: you’re annoying me with your spurs!” Pulling means, “Yours hands are too unyielding!” In point of fact the horse pulls only as hard as the rider’s hands.
