Hello Jose, {Ranger's situation is bad, he refuse to let us near him to put him medicine into the catheter.and since he's still in pain he has to have surgery to remove the eye, or hospitalized in order to give him the medicine 3x a day - and no guarantee that it will work poor boy. How hard was it to train the horse whos blind in one eye? How did the horse behavior change?} The horse at the club was already blind in one eye when i knew him. He can still do show jumping very well, just have to be aware of his blindness in the right eye. When riding him alongside other horses, he sometimes kick out on the blind side (dues to fear?)and so it is safer to keep him riding along with a railing on his right side (something fixed and known to him). He also bites really hard sometimes when one approached on his blind side. Sometimes his temper can be quite bad and grumpy. One just have to be understanding and it takes time for him to be adjusted to the new situation. Good luck! Nothing in this world is 100% perfect. I think a 1/2 blind horse can also teach the rider alot.........patience, kindness, understanding and perhaps true horsemanship.  |
